Fence Installation Techniques Woodlyn, PA

Types of Fences Woodlyn, PA

Installing a fence in Woodlyn, PA incorporates various techniques and considerations to ensure durability, aesthetic appeal, and functionality. The process generally begins with planning, where homeowners decide on the style, material, and dimensions of their desired fence. Commonly used materials include wood, vinyl, aluminum, and chain link, with wood being a popular choice for its classic look and versatility.

The next step is acquiring any necessary permits from local authorities in Woodlyn. This bureaucratic step ensures that the installation complies with municipal codes and regulations regarding height restrictions and boundary lines. Once permissions are secured, it's crucial to have all underground utilities marked before digging commences; safety cannot be overstated here.

Post setting is the cornerstone of robust fence construction. Typically spaced six to eight feet apart depending on the type of wood and design chosen, posts must be set deep enough into the ground - usually around two feet - to resist Pennsylvania's freeze-thaw cycles. Concrete is often poured into post holes to secure them firmly in place.

Horizontal rails are then attached between posts using either nails or screws. It’s essential that these rails are level; otherwise, the entire structure could appear skewed upon completion. Panels or individual boards can then be affixed vertically onto the rails to create the body of the fence.

For those selecting wooden fences in Woodlyn specifically due to its susceptibility to weathering – regular maintenance such as staining or painting becomes paramount for longevity purposes. These treatments help repel water damage and prevent rotting or infestation by pests like termites.

In conclusion, installing a wooden fence in Woodlyn involves careful planning regarding design choices and legal requirements followed by meticulous execution during setting posts and attaching rails and panels. Regular upkeep after installation extends its lifespan making it a worthwhile investment for privacy enhancement or property delineation within this charming Pennsylvania community.

Angi provided me with several contractors, I received estimates but chose Philz Landscaping (even after coming in higher) because he satisfied with his estimate and start date our fervent desire to complete the project before winter set in. Alex, Javier set the example of professionalism in setting up the area to remove fencing and gate, installed vinyl fence with double gate (assisted by Carlos), removed all debris, left my yard spotless and we are extremely satisfied with the new fence and gate. Questions we had were answered (Helena, Phil) promptly and Alex, Javier went above and beyond ensuring my wife’s concerns were taken care of; I want again to Thank the team at Philz Landscaping and recommend highly to perform your project.

Had Phil and his workers come by my house to work on the backyard in May this year. Eliminate weeds, regrade soil and replant grass seed. 158 feet worth of backyard which he estimated $1600 to do. There was a hiccup with his office and scheduling and he wasn't even aware of the set date in mid-May. He rescheduled for the week after and took off $100 for inconvenience. His crew shows up and does the job and weeks after, grass grew....but not fully in corners of the yard. I called him back, voicemail immediately. Got in touch with his office and they said they would pass the message. His response times are atrocious and I told him about the patches in the grass. He says "no problem I'll send guys to evaluate and re-seed". They show up and do the job again. By mid-July, weeds are growing in very strong and grass is dying at exceedingly high rate despite me watering. I called him back and he says "that's odd, I'll come by this afternoon or tomorrow" in September when I finally get a hold of him. He never shows up or responds to texts or further calls. The photos below are post-lawn work with visible patches and weeds. I had to spend additional monies on top soil, grass seed and water to correct the loss of 50% of the lawn!! If you want an overpriced job not done right, Phil is your guy!!

Philz Landscaping built 2 patios on my property. One is flagstone and the other is pavers with a retaining wall. Both are absolutely beautiful. Working with Phil and his team has been a great experience. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliability, quality, and reasonable pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

In Woodlyn, PA, homeowners typically need to obtain a zoning permit before installing a fence. The specific requirements can vary based on the height and type of fence, as well as its location on the property. Its important to check with the Ridley Township Building & Planning Department or local municipal authority for the exact regulations and to acquire any necessary permits before starting the installation.
For Woodlyn’s humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, pressure-treated pine and cedar are popular choices due to their resistance to rot and pests. Cedar also has natural oils that repel insects and is less prone to warping than other woods.
Fence posts should be set at least one-third of their length into the ground for proper stability. In Woodlyn, PA, this typically means a minimum of 24 inches deep to go below the frost line and prevent heaving during freeze-thaw cycles. However, this depth may vary depending on soil conditions and fence height; consulting local building codes can provide specific guidelines.
Wooden fences in Woodlyn require regular maintenance including cleaning, staining or sealing every two to three years to protect against moisture and UV damage. Regular inspection for signs of rotting or insect infestation is crucial for early intervention. Repairing or replacing damaged boards promptly will help maintain structural integrity over time.
